Grape

Diamond grapes are a hybrid white variety from New York State, and they closely resemble Niagara and Concord grapes in both fruit and vine. They tend to ripen later than other varieties, and at Fulkerson they usually begin to ripen in the second week of September. When made into wine, dry Diamond wines can have flavor notes of green apple and mineral while sweet Diamond wine produces flavors of pineapple and tropical fruit. They are versatile and pair well with a wide range of dishes including New York-style pizza, partridge with celeriac, and steak sandwiches.

Purple Rain

Whether you interpret Purple Rain as the apocalypse or a more religious idea of renewal, it’s one of those rare pop works that can stand as a cultural touchstone. Even now, people can remember exactly where they were and what day and time it was the first time they heard this song.

The version of the song in the film and album is actually a live recording from a benefit concert at First Avenue in August 1983. Prince also recorded the B-side, God, which is much more overtly religious and references the Book of Genesis. Stevie Nicks declined to sing on the track, which is a good thing — this is the version that ended up in the film.

Disc Two of the special edition is bursting with more scintillating live footage. Magnoli made a wise call including it.

Berry

Diamond grapes, like Niagara and Concord, are hybrid white grapes grown primarily in New York state. They resemble Niagara in their fruit and Concord grapes on the vine, but they lack Concord’s ability to thrive in harsh climates. Diamond grapes are most often used to make dry wine, although at Fulkerson we also enjoy using them in sweet wines and Champagne.

Berry fruits are rich sources of bioactive compounds, especially polyphenolics and organic acids, which have antimicrobial activities against human pathogens. Because of their colors and antioxidant ability, berries have become the focus of a special field of health research (Gross 2007a). Berry fruits are rich in natural pigments that give them vibrant color. These colorants are known as flavonoids, anthocyanins and tannins, among other phytochemicals found primarily in their skins and seeds.

Watermelon

Watermelon is one of the largest fruit and vegetable crops in the United States. In recent years, outbreaks linked to this produce have been attributed to contamination from the rind to the edible flesh during cutting and handling.

The sweet, juicy treat is rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that may reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. It’s also a source of vitamin C and potassium.

It is recommended that you consume a variety of fruits and vegetables in order to get your daily vitamins and minerals. A large portion of watermelon’s nutrition comes from its rind, which contains citrulline, which converts to the amino acid arginine in your body. In lab experiments, arginine has been shown to increase nitric oxide and improve blood flow.

Coconut

The coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) is a tree in the family Arecaceae that produces fruit. It is one of the most important crops in tropical areas and its various parts have many culinary uses. Grated or flaked coconut is widely eaten both sweet and unsweetened. Coconut milk and oil are also commonly produced from the flesh.

While it has the word nut in its name, a coconut is technically not a nut at all, but a fibrous fruit classified as a drupe, or a stone fruit with a hard stony covering enclosing a seed. Unlike true nuts, which are indehiscent and open to release their seeds at maturity, the coconut’s outer shell instead opens at three round pores, called eyes. The flesh within contains the embryo root and endosperm that initiate plant growth.
